Concert Notes:

Fall Pops Concert on November 6, 2005, 3:00 pm

The St. Theresa School PTA will present the Parkway Concert Orchestra in an exciting pops concert on Sunday, November 6 at 3 p.m. in Monsignor Donahue Hall, St. Theresa School, 30 St. Theresa Avenue, West Roxbury. Music Director and Conductor Peter Freisinger conducts the 50 piece non-profit orchestra in classical and pops selections for the entire family, including the Orpheus Overture, España and excerpts from Finian’s Rainbow. The program includes a jazz band, featuring guest artist Laura Quinn, Soprano, performing “A Tribute to New Orleans”, and original choreography by Ruth Bronwen and Christopher Hird. Dedham cellist Joel Wolfe will perform Fauré’s Élégie for cello and orchestra. The St. Theresa Choirs, directed by Dr. Richard Bunbury, will also perform. After the concert, the audience will be able to meet and learn about the instruments at an instrument petting zoo.

This concert is presented for the public by St. Theresa School PTA and is sponsored by P.E. Murray-George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home. Donations are requested: $6; $5 for seniors; $4 for children. Special Guests:

Cello Soloist Joel WolfeA native of Cleveland, Ohio, Joel Wolfe graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University and received his Master’s degree from the St. Louis Conservatory of Music. His principal teachers include Leslie Parnas, Samuel Mayes, Regina Mushabac, and Robert Perry. Joel has been a member of the Portland (ME) and Springfield (MA) Symphony Orchestras since 1984 and has taught cello and performed chamber music extensively throughout the area. He performed as principal cellist with the Massachusetts Symphony on two recent tours to Spain. During the day, Joel works as a computer network engineer for Digimarc ID Systems. He also enjoys playing blues harmonica, writing children’s songs, and tracing data packets on local area networks. Joel and his wife, pianist Linnea Bardarson, are the proud new parents of five month old twin boys, Reuven and Jonah. Joel and family reside in Dedham.


Christopher HirdChristopher Hird is the Assistant Principal of Boston Ballet School. Mr Hird teaches students in the school at all levels as well as being a ballet master for Boston Ballet School Ensemble. He has staged La Bayadère, Giselle and Birthday Offering for Boston Ballet's Summer Dance Program as well as being the Children's Ballet Master for Boston Ballet's productions of La Sylphide and The Nutcracker. Mr Hird is a member of the Summer Dance Program audition tour team and the Editor for Boston Ballet School's Newsletter.

Mr Hird is originally from London, England and trained at The Royal Ballet School. He danced professionally as part of a company headlined by the international ballerina Sylvie Guillem, touring Europe. He gained a BA (Hons) degree in Dance from University of Surrey (Roehampton Institute) and the Diploma in Classical Ballet Teaching from Canada's National Ballet School. Mr Hird has worked as Assistant to the Director for the British Ballet Organization and Assistant to the Development Manager for The Royal Ballet School. He has taught for Middlesex University (UK), British Ballet Organization's Scholarship classes, Canada's National Ballet School, Adult Dance Camps in Richmond Virginia and Boston Ballet School. Mr Hird was on the Gala committee for Dame Beryl Grey's 75th birthday Gala in London and writes articles for the Boston Dance Alliance.


Dancer Ruth BronwenRuth Bronwen is originally from the Boston area, and after traveling for several years, she has returned to live in Cambridge. A graduate of UMASS Boston with a degree in English and Dance, Ruth is now studying and performing independently in the area. Her recent training has been with Marcus Schulkind at Green Street Studios, Roseanne Ridings at the Dance Complex, Diane Arvanites-Noya and Tommy Neblett of Prometheus Dance, and Jesse Winder of Karma Yoga Studio. Performance appearances include Boston Ballet apprentice/corps work, shared choreographer performances at the Dance Complex, Annie Kloppenberg’s “Caution: Flammable”, ODC/SanFrancisco in workshop, Adrienne Armor at Green Street Studios, Marcus Schulkind’s “Friends Remembered and Gone”, and most recently presenting her own work in Impulse Dance’s showing at Green Street Studios as well as choreographing and performing her own work at UMASS Boston. To help support her dance life Ruth can also be found working on graphics and website projects for independent artists, small companies, and open-source organizations.


Laura QuinnOriginally from Morristown, New Jersey, Laura Quinn is currently in her senior year at Boston University, double majoring in Music Education and Vocal Performance. For the past three years, she studied with Mark Goodrich, but is currently studying with Maria Spacagna. Laura has been a member and soloist of the Boston University Opera Workshop, Chamber Chorus, Women's Choir, and Vocal Jazz Ensemble, as well as a featured soloist in a summer sing of the Masterwork Chorus, under the direction of Andrew Megill. This past spring, she was a semi-finalist in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition (Boston Chapter.)
