Parkway Concert Orchestra begins its 2013-14 season with a 'Spooky!' concert on Sunday, November 3 at 3 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 100 Winter Street, Norwood. Geneviève Leclair conducts the 50 piece non-profit orchestra in 'Night on Bald Mountain,' 'Funeral March of a Marionette,' 'Kikimora,' 'In the Hall of the Mountain King,' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean.' The program will feature violinist Kay Rooney-Matthews, in 'Danse Macabre.'
The program is supported in part by a grant from the Norwood Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Ms. Matthews has lived in Boston since 2006. A native of Virginia, she earned her bachelor’s degree from the North Carolina School of the Arts, and then her Master of Music and Performance Diploma from Boston University. She now performs with various ensembles in New England, such as Vermont Symphony, Odyssey Opera, New Bedford Orchestra, Indian Hill Orchestra, and Marsh Chapel Collegium. This summer, she went on tour with the Vermont Symphony, performed at Monadnock Music Festival, and with Opera North Company. Ms. Matthews also enjoys chamber music and performs in various small ensembles throughout New England. She has been concertmaster of Parkway Concert Orchestra since 2011. Principal teachers include Bayla Keyes, the Muir String Quartet, Kevin Lawrence, and Svend Rønning. Ms. Matthews enjoys teaching others of all ages and abilities and maintains a private violin and viola studio in Boston and Billerica. She lives in Jamaica Plain with her husband, Clark.
