Concert Notes:
"Foreign Lands" Family Concert at Dexter and Southfield Schools on April 29, 2007, 3:00 pm
The Parkway Concert Orchestra will perform in a family concert on Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. in Fiske Hall at Dexter School, 20 Newton Street, Brookline. This concert is presented at no charge for the public by the Dexter and Southfield Schools.
Music Director and Conductor Peter Freisinger has chosen a lively program including the overture to Candide by Bernstein, Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio Español, two Hungarian Dances by Brahms and selections from My Fair Lady. Boston Symphony violinist Victor Romanul will be the featured soloist in Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen (Gypsy Airs). Instrumental students from the Dexter and Southfield Schools, directed by Tim Watrous, will perform short works by Mahler and Brahms. After the concert, the audience will be able to meet the instruments at an instrument petting zoo.

Guest Artist Victor Romanul
Victor Romanul, violinist, has been performing professionally since the age of seven. An active recitalist, teacher and soloist, he has performed throughout the world. As a soloist, he was named "Best of Boston" in 1997 by the Boston Globe. He recently completed a three year tenure as concertmaster of the Ars Poetica Chamber Orchestra, based in Detroit and made up of outstanding players of major orchestras of this country. He has given masterclasses throughout the country at many schools including Northwestern, Columbia, Oberlin and SUNY Stony Brook. As a professor of violin at Boston Conservatory, he has taught violin, chamber music, and pedagogy. He has served as a coach for the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra and the New England Conservatory Preparatory Orchestras. Currently a member of the Boston Symphony violin section, he has served as its Assistant Concertmaster, and as Associate Concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony. He studied with Ivan Galamian, Joseph Silverstein and Jascha Heifetz. As a member of the Boston Artists Ensemble and the Boston Conservatory Chamber Players, he has frequently performed at music festivals throughout New England. Last season's highlights included performances of the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Boston Pops and the New Hampshire Symphony, a three concert series of the ten Beethoven Violin Sonatas at the Goethe Institute in Boston, performances of the complete Six Bach Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin in one recital, and a recital of the complete solo Sonatas of Eugene Ysaye. This season Victor is performing several recitals around the country specializing in the solo violin music by Paganini, Sauret, Ernst, Wienawski, Vieuxtemps and Ysaye.
