Holiday Pops Concert in Norwood on December 11

The Parkway Concert Orchestra will present its annual Holiday Pops Concert on Sunday December 11 at 4:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 100 Winter Street, Norwood. Guest Conductor Matthew Fritz conducts the the 50 piece non-profit orchestra in classical and pops holiday favorites for the entire family, including Victor Hely-Hutchinson's Carol Symphony, The Many Joys of Christmas, Carol Festival, and music from The Polar Express.

This concert is sponsored by May Funeral Home and the program is supported in part by a grant from the Norwood Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Donation is $15; $10 for seniors and students; and free for children under 12 years old. Light refreshments and free parking are included. For ticket reservations, please call 781-444-5041.

Matthew Fritz, Guest Conductor

Matthew Fritz portraitMatthew Fritz is an active violinist and conductor in the Boston area. A native of Scottsdale, Arizona, he holds a master’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Eastman School of Music, and a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in violin performance. His principal conducting teachers were Neil Varon and Robert Moody, and he studied violin performance with Dr. Kathryn McLin, Borivoj Martinic-Jercic, and Dr. Frank Spinosa.

Matthew's conducting experiences have included serving two seasons as the Conductor of Youth Programming with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, and 5 seasons as Music Director of the Parkway Concert Orchestra. He has had the opportunity to guest conduct the Portland Symphony, Southern Arizona Symphony, Quincy Symphony, Cape Ann Symphony, and the Phoenix Symphony Guild Youth Orchestra. Matthew has also conducted the Mendoza Symphony in Argentina, and worked with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra through the Eastman Summer Conducting Institute. (photo © Cydney Scott Photography)
