Parkway Concert Orchestra Presents Mozart and Vangelis on March 26

Mozart and Vangelis will be presented on Sunday, March 26 at 3:00 p.m. at Holy Name Parish Upper Church, 1689 Centre Street, West Roxbury. Music Director and Conductor Geneviève Leclair has chosen a lively program including Rossini’s Overture to The Thieving Magpie, Eine kleine Nachtmusik, In the Steppes of Central Asia, and Chariots of Fire by Vangelis. The Holy Name Children’s Choir, directed by Thomas Manguem, will perform Copland’s Simple Gifts. The program will feature Cyrus Bernstein, clarinet, in the first movement of Concerto for Clarinet No. 2 by Carl Maria von Weber.

This concert is presented by Holy Name Enrichment Program and is sponsored by Vogt Realty Group in memory of Gene and Ann Vogt. During intermission, the audience will have a chance to meet and learn about the orchestra instruments at an instrument petting zoo. Doors will open at 2:30 p.m. Concert admission is free. Guest Artist Cyrus Bernstein, clarinet

Cyrus Bernstein portraitCyrus Bernstein is a junior at Mansfield High School and has been studying clarinet for seven years and with Elizabeth Leehey for six years. Over the course of seven years he has played at several venues including: Ford Hall and Hockett Recital Hall at Ithaca College, Symphony Hall Boston, Veterans Memorial Auditorium Providence, and Carnegie Hall New York City. Every year since 2014, Cyrus has attended and played at the Massachusetts Allstate Festival at Symphony Hall; and last year, he won first place at the American Fine Arts Festival, giving him the opportunity to play at Carnegie Hall. Cyrus also plays in the Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and has attended the orchestra for three years. His repertoire includes: Bernstein, Bèla Kovács, Cahuzac, Cavallini, Mozart, Spohr, Stamitz and Weber. Outside of music, Cyrus enjoys playing chess and Fencing.
